Experience pays for family owned builder of homes

For three consecutive years, Hollub Construction Group has entered the South Florida’s Best competition, which evaluates products and professionals in the building industry. Every year the Hollubs walk away with their hands full of awards. This year the firm added 10 awards to those won in previous years.

Marvin Hollub founded a legacy of home building, although he may not have known he was doing that when he built his first home in Pinecrest in 1954. It was a three-bedroom, two-bath on an acre and sold for $19,000. Today, his children Harry and Helene are also building homes in Pinecrest, but with a value in excess of $1 million.

“It is unbelievable that we’re actually knocking down the homes my father built in Pinecrest 40 years ago to build new ones,” said Harry Hollub, President of Hollub Construction Co. “We may be building newer-style homes, but our quality of construction is still the same. The only difference between our $500,000 home and our $3 million home is the location and size of the property, the finish materials and size of the home. The basic construction of the home is never compromised. Over the years, my father has taught us the skills necessary to help people realize their dream home.”

The Hollubs take these skills beyond simply building. Their client’s satisfaction is their No. 1 concern, Harry Hollub said. Buying a new home is stressful; the family understands this and makes the entire process as simple as possible.

Harry and Helene sit down with potential clients to learn about each family’s style, their concerns, special needs, likes and dislikes. This process includes revising architectural plans, choosing tiles, paint colors, appliances and landscape designs. The end result is a happy customer, he said.

“We only sign a contract after the client is completely satisfied with their selections, floor plan and the price of the home.  We do not force them into a contract first and make these decisions later, which would create a stressful situation,” said Helene Hollub, vice president of the group and the visionary behind the interior design and finish work in the homes.

Hollub Construction Group’s homes are located in Boca Raton at Royal Palm Yacht and Country Club. Sales for St. Andrews are handled by Premier Estate Properties of Boca Raton and selling for $2 million to $4 million. The firm also bids on renovation and remodeling work for existing homes.

“Aside from our quality of construction, our fine attention to detail and carefully thought-out designs help us win our awards,” said Helene Hollub.

“We are also very lucky to have the experience of our father Marvin, our real estate salesman Robert Martin, who built homes in Pinecrest in the 1960s and 1970s, and Robert Tenen, our construction manager, who has 25 years of experience in the real estate market.  Between all of us, we have over 150 years of experience.”

At the South Florida’s Best 2000 Awards, Hollub won the most awards for any custom home entered, including a Platinum award for Architecture, as well as awards in Kitchen, Bath, Interior Design, Pool Design and Builder’s Overall Product Categories. Sponsored by the Builders Association of South Florida, the awards evaluated 385 entries in more than two dozen categories. The awards program is co-sponsored by The Miami Herald and El Nuevo Herald.
